When too many knots have your fingers itching for the scissors, dial back before you concede and consider these solutions to knot free hair.
There are many reasons why you're hair may be knotting, and/or creating split ends. So DHA'sDIY, have complied notes on the most ellusive, but usual reasons, along with quick-fix solutions. See below...
My hair is clogged up: Hair heavy with product build up may not be obvious, so it is important to be mindful of the last time you clarified. Using a clarifying shampoo every 12 weeks leaves your scalp free to fully benefit from the nutrients in your haircare products. Clarifying is especially important when you're a co-washer, but even more so if you are a swimmer, in the case of the latter use a clarifying shampoo more often.
Product build up weighs down your hair, straining your hair follicles and prevents it from reacting positively to your favourite moisturising and detangling products. Your hair may be dry and breaking under all the weight and clog of months of product build-up
I'm washing it wrong: It doesn't matter how long you've had your washing routine, or how much you swear by it! Tangles and knots reevaluate, and your hair can become bored. So, perhaps a change in conditioner will have your hair reacting with the same exuberance you were used to.
I'm not using the best post-wash leave in products for my hair: Some people react well to oils, others don't. Usually there is an oil for you, if not, olive oil, then try vitamin E oil. And don't be surprised if you get a less than welcoming hair reaction to coconut oil, many find that although it is highly nutritious--and beneficial to our scalp and hair-- it often leaves hair feeling coarsely dry.
Overdoing it on acid rinses: It is great to maintain the natural acidity of our hair, but too many vinegar rinses does not lead to health and shine. In fact, overdoing it on acid rinses creates dry and brittle strands, that are extra tied up on tangling. So avoid this, and acid rinse at no more than once every two months, if at all.
After trying the above, ask yourself, if you need a trim. Not a manic exorcism of all knots, but a simple trim of worn out edges, that may cease all your issues of excessive tangles and knots.
