7 WAYS To Hide A BAD HAIR DAY

DHA BLOG: DHA DIY; DOMINICAN HAIR PRODUCTS IN ENGLAND

Sssshhh! nobody has to know...

Covering up neglected hair, or terrible styling malpractice, is an art form that artisans will never reveal. Luckily, DHA's DIY has a penchant for sharing. Though beware;  this isn't an easy or quick study. In order for your bad hair day secret to be truly and safely hidden, your technique has to be adaptable, calm, and infallible...

Buying hats; shopping for hats; dha diy; dominican hair alliance
A hat is a giveaway sign that something ugly lurks beneath. So is a scarf, it's an automatic signal telling everyone within eyeshot that you couldn't be bothered this morning. There is a fine line, though,  that a select few master: where the hat or scarf becomes the item of clothing, the ultimate accessory that your outfit can't live without. And the comments will turn from "nice hat", and "cute scarf",  to "Wow, I really like your outfit!" and "This look really suits you".
So, here's how:

#1                                      How to Wear a Hat

Saying your hat needs to match your outfit is easy. Your hat needs to coordinate; we're talking matching designs, matching stripes, matching materials, the same embellishments on your sweater as your hat, the hat, in short, needs to be an integral part of the outfit, not just your coat! One where the outfit, sans jacket, just wouldn't look good without it. It also needs to be small enough and not so woolly that anyone would expect you to take it off once in doors. (VERY IMPORTANT -think of that girl in the office with the woolly scarf still around her neck; yeah, she's hiding a hickey, or worse the girl with nits... ) You must at all costs avoid being so conspicuous. And remember it's not enough that no one can see your bad hair day, their imagination of what's underneath the hat can be much worse.

Keep this in mind when hunting through the winter sales, and scoop up perfect hat and sweater combos – utterly inseparable pairs – and no-one will expect you to break them up.

The best way to prevent any wayward imaginations of passersby is to show some hair, a sneaki peek, a side bang/curl, the ends at the back of your hat (perfect for when it's just your root area that looks a mess). This way you have proof  – or so they'll perceive, that your hair looks perfectly fine. Just don't show hair that looks a mess, simply for showing's sake; everything on display must look A-OK, a glowing example of the hair that, under your hat, is as beautiful as ever, if not better...

#2            How to hide in a scarf

Embrace it. Embrace the design, the material of your chosen scarf, and build an entire outfit around it. Remember, you didn't tie your hair up to hide – you want to look this way!

For extra surety, use two scarves, one of a satin material, not so slippery as to slide off your head, but a satin scarf that will protect your hair from any harsh material, any drying out, or any tugging of a scarf being tied into your chosen design. The second scarf should be one that ties over the first the one, it will be the one on display for all to see, the one that brings out your eyes, your cheekbones, and sets off all your clothes, yet fits in as an earring would: It should never look out of place in your outfit. So match material, colour, and design when deciding to tie a on scarf, and don't forget to accessorise to your scarf, with any belts, earrings, necklaces, tying the scarf itself to the rest of your outfit.

#3          Don't just stick on a wig!

Even if you're running late, don't; it might not be obvious that you're hiding something, but you will look ridiculous, not to mention lazy if your wig doesn't match up, or sit right. That means, of course, that a wig can only be used in  bad hair day situations where your hair can lie flat enough, with or without a brand new ultra flattening stocking cap. If you don't have a good wig in your closet, invest in one, and get it cut to suit your face. It doesn't have to be expensive, it has, has, to look good on you, (--little do many know expensive wigs are often ill fitting).

Picture
#4      Use elaborate ponytail clip-ons

Wide elaborate ponytail buns cover a multitude of hair evils, whilst giving you ballroom chic. Have plenty of bobby pins at the ready to fasten them securely into place. And don't forget to pick a clip-on that matches your hair, as close as possible, in colour and texture.

Picture
#5            Work with your hair, not against it

Hey, it might not be your best hair day, but do this right and no one else will ever have an inkling of the hair drama you were going through before you stepped outside. Sometimes hair gets into a recalcitrant mood and you just gotta let it do what it do. If it wants to be down, let it. If it doesn't want to go up, don't force it! Let your hair decide the best direction to style it in.

Picture
# 6              Wear a banana

This classic style is not just for grandmas, in fact, with the right kinda side swoop, this hairstyle is quite chic! And the best thing about it is that the body it needs, is gotten best from hair that  is not detangled. So, if your hair is generally not cooperating, and is currently laying in bunches on your head. or as straggly as ever, get a water spritz to give you more movement, some leave in to lock in the conditioning, and give a little hold, and roll the bunches together. Then pin, pin, pin, pin pin, your way up to chic professionalism.

#7             And this is the golden child...

If you have been reading this blog long enough you would know that uncooperative hair that doesn't sit, look or move like it should is in need of one thing... moisture. So when time permits, the best remedy for a bad hair day is to erase it, whatever hair malpractice that got you to this stage, rub it out and start again. Cleanse your hair for a new slate and condition it. Hair that is well conditioned feels loved and responds with the same, sometimes it's not just that our hair doesn't do what we want it to do – it's that it can't. Hair that is moisturised is more elastic, able to bend and be styled in the multitude of designs that we desire. Hair that is dried out, and in so-so condition, however, just doesn't have that to give...

DISCLAIMER; Child, if you have just pressed your hair don't waste it and jump and do number 7, only to press it all over again! Try #1, #5 #6 first--with no water or leave in!! Alternatively, pincurl a press that don't look right (see video tutorial), or use the methods in our previous press blog to rectify it. Just don't waste all that heat work--get 5 days out of it at least!--then do #7 : )

I have three wigs that save me from the bad hair days. In the last few months I've been trying out head scarves. I'm still learning how to tie them perfectly.

Hi Elsie,

We love scarves! We have an article coming up in the next few weeks on different ways to tie them too. Thanks for your comment!

While it doesn't happen to often, when she does have a bad hair day, The banana is the one that saved my Girlfriend many times haha.

She has one that blends in with her natural hair so you couldn't even tell she was wearing it.

Hi Lemarc,

That is a smart move! Extensions that match natural hair textures are so much accessible these days. They can be beyond useful on a bad hair day.

Thanks for your comment :)
