Just a few years ago, two or three, the UK was not filled with the natural Afro hair wearers as it is today. As recently as 2010, our natural hair was hard to spot among people over 12. Nowadays, it seems if you are not natural, you're wigged or weaved - and probably natural under the hair extensions, too. And it's like that everywhere across Europe, the USA and increasingly widespread in the Caribbean. No longer are tight Afro curl wearers thought of as "brave". Now, it's accepted amongst ourselves and increasingly normal. But NORMAL ISN'T ENOUGH! It is time to get PROUD. There is only one way to do it. Our hair HAS to be our crowning glory. It has to reflect the confidence that let us know that being natural is a beautiful thing that doesn't have to be altered. Our natural Afro hair has to be healthy, superconditioned, moisturised, and beautifully styled, taking full advantage of its inherent beauty and strength. Let's face it, it's easy to be proud when you look good. Most of us are just learning, getting to grips with the curls we neglected, hid away and disguised for so long. And not only do we have to rid our minds, self and culture of all the deeply embedded negativity attached to Afro hair, proving to ourselves, our family and world at large the beautiful possibilities of Afro hair, we MUST look GOOD doing it... Your natural you has got to be the best-looking version of you, period.
