Pincurls are a style with plenty of plusses. Effortless to create, they work wonders for a fading press or transitioning hair, and are a great way to show off the length you've gained from pampering your hair – the Dominican way – all year long! As well as being super-easy to do, these curls are highly versatile; they work on a variety of lengths, and are suitable for every occasion. Best of all, they look like they took a lot more effort to create than they actually did. Don't worry – your secret is safe with us! To help maximise your belleza this month, we've drawn up a modified, step-by-step guide to go alongside the video that will have even first-timers producing pro results. For best results, start with your hair in one of the following conditions: pressed (including at late stages); transitioning; relaxed, or naturally straight/wavy hair.
Step 1 Start on dry hair. With your fingers, part off your entire crown and secure the rest of your hair away from this area. Step 2 Get to work at your front hairline, parting your hair in they way you would like your curls to fall. Step 3 Part one section at a time, using your fingers. Smaller sections are a must for thicker, denser hair, or for really reverted hair. On all hair types, they also set quicker and give tighter, more defined curls. Step 4 Apply a small amount of BPT Brillantina to your fingers, add to your hair and brush through so the section is smooth and all hairs are in place. This product will also confer a light hold which is great for a set that has tons of movement, but needs just a little bit of help to stay together. Step 5 Put your index and middle finger of one hand together. Step 6 Place these two fingers behind the section of hair you are working on, towards the roots. Step 7 Then, with your other hand, wrap the hair over itself and around your fingers several times, until you make a barrel-shaped curl. Step 8 Slide the alligator clip in, flat at the base of the curl, making sure you grip both the roots and the tips of your hair, which should be at the bottom of the curl itself. Don't worry if the shape of the pincurl is a little asymmetrical; as long as you have no stray hairs and clip it securely, it will still come out fine. Step 9 Once you have finished the crown area, repeat the same technique on the rest of your hair, but secure the remaining sections with bobby pins. Step 10 To secure the hair with bobby pins, clip them at the base of the curl as with the alligator clips, but slide them in diagonally. First slide in one bobby pin, then another so they overlap in an 'X' shape on the base. Step 11 Then, simply tie your hair and leave to dry overnight. If you need to do this as a last-minute 'do, then it is best to go under the hood dryer for 30 minutes on a low-to-medium setting to get the set in place, without direct heat, which is more damaging and much less effective at holding a set in place. Step 12 Finally, release the curls. They should be pretty boingy throughout! Fingercomb to arrange, and for added gloss, smooth in a drop or two of atrActiva Shine Drops Conditioning Leave In. All done! This look suits all face shapes and works on hair lengths from 5 inches up. Pincurls last 1-2 days, but are super-quick to redo at night if you want to rock them for the whole X-mas season. With gorgeous results and only minimal time and effort, this look will ensure your hair is one less thing on your to-do list in the last-minute rush this Christmas. Enjoy!
